Research is super important.
If you fail at that, you will be called out for it, specially if you’re writing Sci-fi and Neil deGrasse Tyson happens to be in a correcting mood.
“Save the Earth” really means “Save the Humans” or “Save the Life on Earth”. Earth the planet will outlast all extinctions.

Speaking of research, did you know that I consulted with a criminal lawyer from NY to make Santana from A Courtroom of Ashes extra real? That was pretty cool.
Also, I wrote a book about a lawyer going to hell, so I had to make up for that.
Anyway. If you have questions about criminal law, I’m your girl. Like Sal from “Breaking Bad”.
…
Okay, I’m joking.
Criminal law is hard, ya’ll.
Solid research gives you, the writer, confidence in what you’re writing, and gives your story authenticity. Readers (and editors!) pick up on that overall feel of authenticity (or lack) even more than they notice erroneous details.
So true
So far I am enthralled with Courtroom of Ashes, I’ve just gotten to Red Seth and the pendant, I’ll say no more as to not give spoilers, but OMG this just took a turn towards a wild ride. I am pretty excited.
Also, yes, research! OMG, I did so much research on plausible options for terraforming Mars and Faster than Light travel before I wrote my Science Fiction novels. I still think Neil deGrasse Tyson would tear it apart, but hey! it’s fun!
Yay, I’m so glad you’re enjoying it! : D Oh and I’m also juggling the hard core space stuff because my next novel is a sci-fi romance. No more gravitational waves please lol. Oh well, at least Neil will shred us both to pieces, so we’re not alone. : )
Thank goodness for the internet. It makes novel-writing research so much easier. But still, sometimes we need more, like consultations with experts as you did. My last novel had some legal issues, so one of my beta readers was a lawyer. I definitely wanted to make sure I got the facts right.
Thanks for visiting my blog. Much appreciated!

Lawyers going to hell! Headed off to buy this book like yesterday!
